update!

okay, there has been many changes to the story and DV.

let's recap:

DV: in tune with the politics of identity; we want to show the reversal or subversion of the stereotypical roles of men and women, particularly in the modern context.

Mime and Music: 4 situations to show this DV along with appropriate sounds.

Situations: currently, we have 3 confirmed (i hope) situations, with another 2 pending.

1) restaurant scene: mel and suryadi will be in a restaurant and in this scene, mel's objective is to woo and eventually propose to sur(something a guys would usually do)

progress: we have set the scene in a restaurant- obviously. also, we have deliberated over the use of a table or not. in the end, we did not use the table to make the mime element more obvious and also, to test and improve our ability as mimes. the thing is, we need to make the audience see what we are holding/doing, rather than having props to help us- that would be like cheating. in term of the funny factor, i think that is is medium and i think that we can up the comedy, with better timings and body movements, all will be rehearsed.

2) house scene: afiqah and mark are husband and wife. mark will take on the unconventional role as housewife and afiqah will be the "husband"

progress: i think that this scene needs a lot of improvement. the timings and movements needs to be trained better. the setting is in the living room of a family home. also, the role of the husband needs to be set clearly because right now, i feel as though the audience would not identify with her. also, it can be more comedy. we all need to take our movements and milk them so that our actions are portrayed in a more funny way.

3) Box scene: 2 guys stumble across a box and they will try to push/carry/pull it away. but they are not strong enough. eventually, the girls are the ones who can carry the boxes.

progress: this is a new idea that we have just practised for today's rehearsal. it is easier to be funny with this scene. the guys need to improve their actions tho. can be improved much more.

pending scenes:

1) shopping: boys will be seen dragging their girlfriends to shop, instead of the other way around.

status: this is the original idea but we feel that it lacked the energy and the DV. however, we have already practised the movements.

2) hiking: girls are better hikers, more survival of the fittest, where we see the boys lacking in strength.

status: this was the one with a lot of problems. firstly, how to depict the scenery, to show mountain, flat land and whatnot. i think that this piece has a lot of potential to show off our skills but we unfortunately are lacking in time.

rehearsals today!

so, we stretched first however we did not do mime exercises due to lack of time.

then, we sat and discussed about the 2 problem scenes and came to the conclusion that it lacked the energy for us to perform for the showcase. we had a brainstorming session and we came up with the box idea. we expanded on the idea and then choreographed the movements. it was sucessful but we can make it better with practice. the only problem was that it showcased mostly the boys and not the girls, so, the homework for us would be to

*find a scene that fits the theme that includes the girls*

my advice, watch videos(jerome murat is awesome)- for inspiration and also to improve our physicality and movement.

gambatte people!

so, we rehearsed the 3 scenes(confirmed) and we commented without major changes- what a change!

tomorrow, we are shopping for costume and makeup.

we are also going to record the scenes so that mark can finalise the sound and we can rehearse with the sounds. yes. i know we are behind in the sound aspect.

sleep well and work hard!
