Agenda: Decide on whther or not to include a 4th scene, or just make scene 3 longer. + Admin matters
What we did: We decided to add in another scene, scene 4, where Mel and Afiqah are the more dominant characters. We decided it to be a flirting story, where Suryadi will be seduced by the 2 woman. The subvergence of gender stereotype happens when the 2 girls started using all means to get his attention. In reality, no girls would go to such extremes to get a guy, only guys would. Thus, this would be able to show our DV too!
Admin matters:
Suryadi will try to get the face paints.
All members to buy their respective long sleeve shirt.
All members to post on blogs.

No more wearing of socks.

5/8/09 Showcase
People, so today we had our showcase, and it went quite pretty well. Several notes to note:
1. Ms Norzian wants us to make our expression better, because she thinks that our expressions were almost about the same.
2. Physicality should be exxaggerated and more refined.
3. Consider having only 1 charater for the different situations so that people wathing can know that we are the same people. Example, the way we walk can be the same in the situations we appear in, to show the same character.
4. Making the 'human sound effects' constant throughout. example Mel's whistle etc.
5. For Character's markers, Ms Norzian thinks we just see for ourselves If it fits in, then use, if not then dont.
6. Top shirt changed to a long sleeve one. can claim.
7. Not to make the play more than 15 minutes, but still ensure equal distribution of charaters in the play.

Suryadi's character analysis
Restaurant Scene:
suryadi: I am playing a guy who will be meeting his girlfriend for a date at an exquisite restaurant.
Motivations: I just want to enjoy the best out of this date and that most probably i can propose to her. Also, i will want to impress her.
Box Scene:
Suryadi: i am playing a passer-by who happens to see Mark.
Motivations: I just want to help Mark in trying to solve his problem, which is to carry the box. No matter how hard i try, i just couldnt carry it. But i will not give up. Perseverance is the key!

2/8/09 SHOPPING DAY!
We(the whole members) met at around 11am!!! And we went to Daiso, hoping to find the hand gloves that we need. And yes, they do sell, but we thought it was a bit thin and might not last. We checked at Spotlight, but they dont sell. We couldnt find Face-paint at Daiso and we also went to Spotlight and check, and they did sell, but it was too expensive and we were scared that it might crack after using. After further discussion, we decided to just buy the gloves from Daiso and decided not to buy the face-paint first.
Next, we had to buy our costume. We went to 'WELCOME NO.1 Costume ' shop, where they sold many different interesting designs for plays, and performances. The place was huge and they had all kinds of costumes ever!!! Fortunately, we were able to 'get' our costume there, BUT!!!! it was priced at $50 EACH! 'Forget it' we told ourselves.
Next,we went to Bugis, but couldnt find one that had our exact design. So after further deliberation, we decided to just wear a full white top with black pants. We also thought of painting the white top with black stripes, but we were afraid we might destroy the whole piece, and just stick with the idea of a white top and black pants. Turning point- Costume design has been changed slightly. We bought a size M white cotton shirt, priced at 3 for $19.90. Since there was no correct size for Melissa, she decided to just find it at her house to see if there is any similar ones.
Its a long day and we decided to stop then, and just go back home. For the pants, we will each try to get them ourselves. So in summary, we spent 4 hours, getting our hand gloves and white top.
The End! (Tired me) :(

update!
okay, there has been many changes to the story and DV.
let's recap:
DV: in tune with the politics of identity; we want to show the reversal or subversion of the stereotypical roles of men and women, particularly in the modern context.
Mime and Music: 4 situations to show this DV along with appropriate sounds.
Situations: currently, we have 3 confirmed (i hope) situations, with another 2 pending.
1) restaurant scene: mel and suryadi will be in a restaurant and in this scene, mel's objective is to woo and eventually propose to sur(something a guys would usually do)
progress: we have set the scene in a restaurant- obviously. also, we have deliberated over the use of a table or not. in the end, we did not use the table to make the mime element more obvious and also, to test and improve our ability as mimes. the thing is, we need to make the audience see what we are holding/doing, rather than having props to help us- that would be like cheating. in term of the funny factor, i think that is is medium and i think that we can up the comedy, with better timings and body movements, all will be rehearsed.
2) house scene: afiqah and mark are husband and wife. mark will take on the unconventional role as housewife and afiqah will be the "husband"
progress: i think that this scene needs a lot of improvement. the timings and movements needs to be trained better. the setting is in the living room of a family home. also, the role of the husband needs to be set clearly because right now, i feel as though the audience would not identify with her. also, it can be more comedy. we all need to take our movements and milk them so that our actions are portrayed in a more funny way.
3) Box scene: 2 guys stumble across a box and they will try to push/carry/pull it away. but they are not strong enough. eventually, the girls are the ones who can carry the boxes.
progress: this is a new idea that we have just practised for today's rehearsal. it is easier to be funny with this scene. the guys need to improve their actions tho. can be improved much more.
pending scenes:
1) shopping: boys will be seen dragging their girlfriends to shop, instead of the other way around.
status: this is the original idea but we feel that it lacked the energy and the DV. however, we have already practised the movements.
2) hiking: girls are better hikers, more survival of the fittest, where we see the boys lacking in strength.
status: this was the one with a lot of problems. firstly, how to depict the scenery, to show mountain, flat land and whatnot. i think that this piece has a lot of potential to show off our skills but we unfortunately are lacking in time.
rehearsals today!
so, we stretched first however we did not do mime exercises due to lack of time.
then, we sat and discussed about the 2 problem scenes and came to the conclusion that it lacked the energy for us to perform for the showcase. we had a brainstorming session and we came up with the box idea. we expanded on the idea and then choreographed the movements. it was sucessful but we can make it better with practice. the only problem was that it showcased mostly the boys and not the girls, so, the homework for us would be to
*find a scene that fits the theme that includes the girls*
my advice, watch videos(jerome murat is awesome)- for inspiration and also to improve our physicality and movement.
gambatte people!
so, we rehearsed the 3 scenes(confirmed) and we commented without major changes- what a change!
tomorrow, we are shopping for costume and makeup.
we are also going to record the scenes so that mark can finalise the sound and we can rehearse with the sounds. yes. i know we are behind in the sound aspect.
sleep well and work hard!
